The 1840 Chess Set

This Chess set is hand made in the UK from native Timbers,

the Black pieces are from Laburnam (Golden Chain)and the White pieces from Hawthorn (May)

The set's design was taken from a book written in 1840, it was called Lewis on Chess, unfortunately

I do not remember Lewis' initials, the book was a friends and has long been returned.

Should I get the opportunity however I will post a shot of the book and the original drawing

up for all to see.

The reason I made the set was purely for my own delight, I really admired the design, it was different

in a way that to me had classical written all over it, and it is very nice to use, I get great enjoyment

from it both as a set and as an interesting addition to my artifacts.
